The research achievements of the modern literature (1919—1979) in the Southern Region of the Five Ridges (Lingnan) can be divided into the germination period and the tortuous period. The germination period study shows a kind of limitation in the range and depth for its research achievements focus too much on the great masters, such as Huang Zunxian, Wu Janren, Su Manshu, etc. and the tortuous period study reflects the winding road of literature study and literature study is seriously affected with political aspects and the opinion that literature study must serve politics, moreover, deviation occurs during the 1960s and 1970s.
