Study on 3-Dimensional Distance Estimation Under the Condition of Auditory Apparent Motion:A Comparative Study between Blind Students and Normal Students

  • To figure out whether the ISI, audio frequency and educational systems have an influence on the blind people's ability of distance estimation, the researcher conducted an experiment with E-prime under the condition of auditory apparent motion. The participants are made up of 32 blind students and 32 normal students which are selected randomly from different educational systems (mainland / Hong Kong). The independent variable are groups (the blind / the normal), the between-subject variable, and ISI (50ms / 100ms) and sound frequencies (low pitch / medium pitch / high pitch), the within-subject variables. It can be concluded that: the 3-dimensional distance estimation mechanism of the blind students is different from that of the normal students; ISI and audio frequencies have a significant influence on students' ability of distance estimation; the education system have little impact on students' ability of estimated distance.
