On Characteristics and Translation of Ci Poems in Traditional Chinese Poetry

It's taken for granted that Ci poems, as well as poems(five-or-seven character poems), belong to Chinese poetry in a broad sense. Therefore, there is no doubt that, in the previous translation studies, translation of Ci poems is treated in the framework of poetry translation. As a matter of fact, Ci poems proper are endowed with distinctive specialties. Starting from a discussion of the properties of Ci poems, this article provides a preliminary analysis of its translation in terms of melody, pattern and rhythm, pointing out its translational features, in order to provoke the further thought and research in the academic sector.
