Cultivating Strategies for New Types of International Foreign Language Talents in the Context of the Belt and Road Initiative

  • The Belt and Road Initiative requires cultivating a group of international talents who have international visions, good knowledge of international rules, and who are able to participate in international affairs and international competition. To meeting such challenges, it is worth discussing how to engage with College English teaching in China. This study takes a local undergraduate university as a case to examine the status quo of two versions of its College English Syllabus, and identified the changes and deficiencies. This is based on a research report Workplace Skills, as well as the conceptual issues such as intercultural skills and intercultural competence, globalization and localization. It then maps out strategies for cultivating new types of international foreign language talents in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative. It also provides reference for such types of colleges and universities on how to promote further transformation and curriculum development, and on how to cultivating international talents to meet the new workplace demands.
