The Multimodal Discourse Construction of Chinese Classics for Cross-cultural Dissemination:A Case Study of the Documentary Confucius(International Version)

  • Based on the language, thinking and cultural barriers faced by the cross-cultural dissemination of Chinese cultural classics, combined with the visual culture and the context of the new media era, this paper attempts to use multimodal discourse theory to construct a multimodal discourse framework for cross-cultural dissemination of Chinese cultural classics and explore the effective mode of cross-cultural dissemination of Chinese cultural classics. It also analyzes the multimodal discourse construction process of the documentary Confucius (International Version) from the following aspects: cross-cultural context, conversion between culture systems, cross-cultural conversion of narratives, cross-culture conversion of modes, designing of cross-cultural multimodal discourse, and media choice of cross-cultural dissemination of discourse, etc. The study tries to provide a new perspective for cross-cultural dissemination of Chinese classics.
