Errors in the Wangs' Study of Annotation to Origin of Chinese Characters

  • Wang Nian-sun and Wang Yin-zhi, father and son from Gaoyou city, pointed out mistakes of Mr. Duan Yu-cai's Annotation to Origin of Chinese Characters in their works. They are, however, not specialized in the book Origin of Chinese Characters. Their critique of this book is almost always to the point. To clear away the misconception of Origin of Chinese Characters and show the critical approaches of the Wangs, this essay lists the errors of the Wangs' Study of Mr. Duan's Annotation to Origin of Chinese Characters, with reference of former scholarly opinions and in the light of excavated manuscripts, justifying what is proper and pointing out what is not.
