Abstract
This paper focuses on the defects of British convict transportation system as is demonstrated in the famous Australian novel His Natural Life in the 19th century.First,it reveals the distortion and destruction of the convict by the colonial authorities, typically represented by the protagonist Devin Taos who suffers terribly from physical and spirit persecution. Then it expounds the corruption and wickedness of colonialism aggravated by bourgeois utilitarianism,Devin's colonial alienation and margination and the subversive sense aroused in escape, from the postcolonial and postmodern perspective.
