Exploration of Qianzhong Culture in Tang Dynasty

  • Qianzhong Circuit, one of the fifteen Circuits in Tang Dynasty, administered 18 government-controlled states and 51 district-controlled states then, which are now areas bordering Chongqing, Guizhou, Hunan, Hubei, and Guangxi, covering 300, 000 km2, where Yandan (salt) is rich in sources. It was peacefully developing in the relaxed political environment, while the central plains were in battles. This paper decodes "Qian" from Yandan culture—a diversified culture with multiple nationalities, variety of economic forms, exiled officials, and Qianzhong customs.
