Abstract: The State Council has announced a day off for Qing Ming Festival since 2008, which arouses interest in such questions as "what is the reason for the day off?", "what is the nature, origin, forms and meaning of Qing Ming Festival?" This paper tries to answer these questions and proposes some new perspectives for the protection of intangible cultural heritage.
