Abstract: Though the concept of strengthening cultural introduction has been accepted in foreign language education, teachers usually lay stress on cultural introduction of target language rather than that of native language in their teaching practice, which is inimical to development of students' overall cultural literacy and their effective transcultural communication. In this paper, the necessity of strengthening introduction of native culture in college English teaching is studied from three functions of native language culture: 1) to improve English learning and communicative ability; 2) to enhance transcultural communication; 3) to establish the awareness of cultural equality.
