Abstract: The famous Japanese writer Ryu Murakami's works, such as Almost Transparent Blue and Coinlocker Babies, reflect the young generation's anxieties on self-identity and the possible destructive results, which are brought about because of today's collapse of the traditional Japanese patriarchal system. On the other hand, some of his representative works, such as KYOKO and Exodus of the Land of Hope, render deep discussions on the possibility of reconstructing the healthy social mentality and the style of individual existence by building a positive sense to accept other cultures and the subjectivity to overcome the anxieties over the patriarchal crisis.
