Abstract: As a rhetorical device most commonly used in EST, passive rhetoric not only bears an informative function, but endows EST with preciseness in content, conciseness in form, clarity in logicality, and appropriateness in style. Accordingly, translation of EST is supposed to reproduce the beauty of the original under the principles of fitness, terseness, fluency and elegance so as to adapt the translated language to the tradition of Chinese rhetoric and aesthetics.
