Abstract: This paper studies three archaic words: including "barter cloth for thread"(抱布贸丝), "interchangeability of wu and wu"(无通亡), and "sheng zhang"(生杖).Based on the textual research of these words, three new ways to improve exegesis are provided: 1) making reference to new outcomes in contemporary archaeology, 2) paying attention to the researches in paleography, and 3) studying morphemic meaning of compound words of two-syllable spoken words in medieval Chinese with the evolution of word meaning.
