Abstract: Under the influence of ancient literary restoration movements, academic atmosphere was on the downside in the middle of Ming Dynasty. Yang Shen advocated doing realistic research with extensive data collection. He closely examined the name and description of cultural relics sorting out historical facts from stories in Han Dynasty, replenished annotation to Shih Chi and Han Book, and corrected the errors made by contemporary scholars All these contributed to the formation of practical academic study.
