Abstract: This paper makes a campartive study of qualitative research methods-traditional grounded theory and newly rising interpretative phenam enological analysis-from their background and research processes. The study focuses on the differences in the sample data collection and analysis and focalizes different characteristics of the two research orientations in order to help researchers to make reasonable choice between them according to their questions and targets
