Abstract:
In this paper a predictive model for drilling forces generated by the drill with indexable inserts is developed based on classical oblique cutting theory combined with empirical formulae, in which the approach of integrated elemental cutting edges is used.With the help of the analytical module in software ANSYS, the FE model of the drilling process for the drill body is built.The stress and deformation distributions are obtained, and the theoretical enlargement amount of the hole drilled in 'non-steady state' can be calculated.The developed model and the research method employed are valuable for the cutting forces calculation and numerical simulation of other kinds of drills with indexable inserts.
