An Error-analysis for Vietnamese Students of Advanced Chinese Level in Use of Directive Complement

  • Through analyzing the compositions of Vietnamese students of advanced Chinese level, we selected 134 sentences with directional complement errors. These errors were divided into five categories: 1) over-use of directional complements; 2) confusion about different types of directional complements; 3) omission of directional complements; 4) confusion of directional complements with other complements; 5) confusion about directional complements and object sequences. The main reason for Vietnamese students' errors when using the directional complement is negative transfers from their mother tongue.
